Spiritual direction offers Christians a safe place to talk about their journey of faith. It is a process of guiding people as they find their center in God. Equipping Lydia offers appointments with trained spiritual directors who guide participants through a discerning dialogue of holy listening, prayer and worship.

Andee Marks, Spiritual Director

Ordained to the vocational diaconate of the Anglican Church in North America in October 2013, I currently serve as Associate Pastor to Saint Patrick’s Anglican Church in Lexington, KY. I am in the final year of The Ministry of Spiritual Direction Program, offered jointly by Equipping Lydia and The Center for Spiritual Formation through Asbury Theological Seminary.  After 20+ years of equipping people for church-related ministry, I am experiencing a shift in my calling to come alongside people who are exploring their unique and sacred spiritual journey. I am especially drawn to women who are transitioning into the second half of life with a growing awareness that there may be more to life than what they experienced in the first half! Though the way may at times be difficult, there is such joy in the journey of faith!

I have a flexible schedule and typically meet for spiritual direction at Apostles Anglican Church, 200 Colony Blvd. in Lexington. If you are interested in exploring spiritual direction, please email me directly at andeemarks@gmail.com to schedule an appointment.

Jenny Strange, Spiritual Director

I have resided in Wilmore, KY since 2007.  I graduated from Indiana University’s Physical Therapy program in 1998.  My career has focused on geriatric clients in a variety of settings.  Ministering in local church ministries has deepened and enriched my faith journey.  Discovery of the ministry of spiritual direction has provided experiences of drinking from the well of God’s love.  I am blessed to be a part of the training to become a spiritual director facilitated by Asbury Seminary through The Center of Spiritual Formation.  I look forward to offering a place for others to receive through this stream of Christ’s love.

Darrell Hathcock, Spiritual Director

Darrell Hathcock is in year two of the Ministry of Spiritual Direction cohort with the Center for Spiritual Direction from Carlisle, PA, and offered through Equipping Lydia at Asbury Theological Seminary.  He is a spiritual director-in-training who plans to graduate from Asbury in May, 2017, with a Master’s in Divinity.

As a full-time Asbury student who commutes from London, KY, Darrell also is seeking ordination within the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in the summer of 2017.  He has served as pastor of First Christian Barbourville, KY, for four years.  Originally from North Carolina, Darrell moved to Kentucky 30 years ago to continue work in the newspaper business.  Another career was teaching high school science.  He retired in 2012 as a national board certified teacher to pursue full-time studies in Wilmore.  While at Asbury, Darrell also completed the two-year practicum in Christian healing prayer offered through the Asbury Healing Academy.  His passions are for spiritual formation, pastoral ministry and congregational transformation.

Darrell is a widower since 2005 and has an adult daughter, Sarah, who lives nearby in London.
“My faith journey and experiences did not include such things as intentional formation in the likeness of Christ, let alone an awareness of the charism of holy listening“ Darrell says.  “I kept wondering why other people would seek me out to share the deep questions from their soul about faith even though I am not an outgoing personality type.  Then the Lord used some deep and discerning folks here at Asbury to help me name and claim this calling to a ministry of spiritual direction.”

Jennie Clements Wheaton, Spiritual Director

Jennie completed Asbury Seminary’s Healing Academy in 2016 and is finishing the Ministry of Spiritual Direction program facilitated by Equipping Lydia in 2017.  ”My hope and vision since I came off the mission field was that God might use my own season of crisis to equip me to serve and meet with other missionaries and followers of Jesus who are either preparing for ministry or in the throws of it. I believe He has (and is continuing to) done this. I’m so excited to be a part of what He is doing and so excited to get to make space for others to meet with Jesus in a safe, peaceful, and loving way. While my healing journey is nowhere near complete, God has used spiritual direction to bring deep healing in my life. So my prayer is that that would be the case for those I meet with as well.”

Jaqueline Hollowell, Spiritual Director

I am a student in the Ministry of Spiritual Direction Program offered  by The Center For Spiritual Formation through Asbury Theological Seminary.  I have a BS degree in Interior Design, and Computer Aided Drafting and Design, AA degree in General Education. My hearts desire is to see others develop in their spiritual walk with God and become more consciously aware of His presence in their life’s journey. It has often been said I am a good listener. People have a tendency to be drawn to me and feel free in sharing their life’s journey, even in a very intimate way. It is such a joy and source of fulfillment hearing and listening to others as they are able to share their life’s journey then seek to point them to Christ.
